The Tube Models
Jalen and Priya used 12 short cardboard tubes from a recycling bin. They connected the tubes with removable clips to make a tall collection-bin model. The model had four columns with three tubes in each column.
To make a different model, they gently opened the clips and placed the tubes in a tray. They counted 12 loose tubes. Then they used the same tubes to make a wide message-board stand with two rows of six tubes.
The message-board stand was wider and lower than the collection-bin model. The tubes were still the same length, and the students did not cut, paint, or replace any tubes.
- A. The tubes changed size when the model changed shape.
- B. The message-board stand needed a second set of tubes.
- C. The same small tubes made two different arrangements.
- D. The collection-bin model had more tubes than the stand.
