Sunday Supper at Grandpa Joe's

Every Sunday, my whole family eats supper at Grandpa Joe's house. This week, a crowd of cousins filled the kitchen. Grandpa clapped his hands and gave everyone a job.

Aunt Rosa and I were a team. We washed a bunch of grapes and cut up carrots for the salad. My cousin Malik baked a batch of corn muffins. Soon the whole kitchen smelled warm and sweet.

Next, my cousin Lucy carried a stack of plates to the table. She set one plate at every seat. I folded the napkins into little triangles.

Before we ate, I looked out the window. A flock of sparrows was hopping on the fence. Grandpa tossed them some muffin crumbs. Then we all sat down together, and Grandpa said, "Let's eat!"
