Read the letters

Lena lives far away from her grandpa. They send letters to each other in the mail.

Lena's Letter

Dear Grandpa Walt,
Mom and I made pickles today! We used the recipe card you sent. First we washed the little cucumbers. Then we packed them into two big jars. We poured in salty water and added dill and garlic. Now we have to wait for them to turn into pickles. I peek at the jars every morning. How long did you wait when you were a kid?
Your pickle helper,
Lena

Grandpa's Reply

Dear Lena,
Your letter made me smile. I waited a whole week for my pickles when I was your age. My sister and I tasted one every day to check. They got more sour each day. Please save a jar for me! I will visit you soon.
Love,
Grandpa Walt
