Water Test Notes

Noor's class met at the school garden table. An adult filled a wide plastic cup halfway with water from the garden tap. The class watched the water flow when the adult gently tipped the cup. They planned to use the water for seedlings after their test.

The adult put the cup in a freezer overnight. The next morning, the water was hard ice. It did not flow when the adult tipped the cup.

Next, the adult set the cup in warm water. Later, everything inside the cup was liquid and flowed again. Nothing was added to or poured out of the cup. Only the adult handled the warm water and the cup with ice.

1.
What change happened as the ice warmed?
  • A. The liquid water became hard ice.
  • B. The hard ice became liquid water.
  • C. The hard ice stayed hard ice.
  • D. The water left the empty cup.
