A Blue-Tile Learning Wall

A second-grade class is planning a learning wall beside the stone seats in its school garden. Blue tiles will hold cards about water on Earth. The class wants to include water in the garden and water in other places. Students collect these observation records from family trips and a winter garden walk.

Record A — Ocean: Waves splash onto a sandy shore. The water flows back toward the ocean.

Record B — River: Water flows downhill between two banks.

Record C — Lake: A sheet of ice covers the center. Open water moves gently near the shore.

Record D — Garden pond: A smooth layer of ice covers the surface. The students do not check below the ice.

Record E — Garden snow: Snow lies on the ground beside the stone seats.

Record F — Garden puddle: Rainwater fills a low spot. Small ripples move across it in the breeze.

Ice and snow are solid water. Liquid water can flow and splash.
