Theo's Saturday Job
Every Saturday, Theo helps his Aunt Rosa at her flower shop. The shop smells sweet. Buckets of flowers stand in rows by the window. Theo's first job is to fill each bucket with cool, fresh water.
This morning, the phone rang. It was Mr. Lee. He wanted flowers for his wife's birthday. "She loves yellow," he said. Aunt Rosa picked six yellow roses and a few white daisies. Theo held the flowers while she cut the ends of the stems.
Next, Aunt Rosa wrapped the flowers in green paper. She let Theo tie a ribbon around them. He made a big bow and pulled it tight. One soft petal fell on the counter. Theo put it in his pocket to keep.
At noon, Mr. Lee came into the shop. He smiled when he saw the yellow roses. "These are perfect!" he said. Theo took a bow, and everyone laughed. Then Theo swept the floor and got ready for the next order.
