The Morning Carpool

It's seven thirty, and Mrs. Abebe's van is ready for the carpool. She gives two short beeps. Wren runs out holding her brother's lunch bag by mistake.

"That isn't yours," says Mrs. Abebe. "Your lunch is the green one." Wren laughs and runs back inside to swap.

Next, they stop at Felix's house. Felix can't find his left shoe. At last, his dog's nose finds it under the porch steps. "Let's go!" Felix calls, and he hops in.

Last is Joon. Joon's backpack has a long rip, and his papers slide out on the seat. "Don't worry," says Wren. "I've got a big clip." She pins the rip shut.

At school, the kids wave goodbye. "We'll see you at three," says Mrs. Abebe.
