Awning Day on Dunmore Street: Spell with aw, au, oa and ow
Use the patterns in saw, pause, road and slow to spell new words.

Read the story
Read about Zeynep's day. Look for words with aw, au, oa and ow.
Awning Day
1It was a hot day in August. Zeynep rode along the road to Dunmore Street in Aunt Fenna's truck. Aunt Fenna puts up awnings for her job. An awning is a cloth roof over a shop window. It makes shade.
2They got there at dawn, when the shops were still quiet. Aunt Fenna parked by the lawn next to Mr. Quill's map shop. First, they had to haul a long yellow awning out of the truck. It was heavy, so they went slow.
3Aunt Fenna put on her work coat and climbed the ladder. Zeynep stayed below and held the ladder steady. She saw her aunt pause at the top to check each bolt.
4At last, the yellow awning hung over the window. Mr. Quill came out to look. "My maps will not fade in the sun!" he said. Zeynep grinned. She could not wait to show her friends.
