Tap, Feel, and Listen

Snow covers the town outside a toy shop. Inside, Eli checks a metal bell with an adult. To vibrate means to shake back and forth quickly.

The adult holds the bell's handle and taps its side with a soft beater. Eli listens, then lightly touches the side. Next, the adult gently holds the side still. They use the same bell and gentle tap for three tries.

Each try: After the tap, the bell rings. Eli feels tiny, quick shakes at its side. When the adult holds the side still, the shakes and ringing stop.

1.
Which motion means the bell is vibrating?
  • A. It moves once to a shelf.
  • B. It stays still in a hand.
  • C. It shakes back and forth quickly.
