Sound Predictions at the Camp Song Tent

Use two tests to predict sounds and tiny shakes.

A Sound Maker for Camp Songs

Listen to the test. Use what happened to predict what comes next.

Pluck, Watch, and Listen

On a camping trip, Nia visits the song tent. An adult stretches a wide rubber band around an open box. The band stays attached. To vibrate means to shake back and forth quickly.

Nia gently plucks the band. She watches and listens. Then the adult lightly holds the band still. They repeat the test twice, using the same box, band, and gentle pluck.

Both times, the band looks blurry as it shakes, and Nia hears a twang. When the adult holds the band still, the shaking and the twang stop together. Before the next pluck, the band rests quietly.
