Orchard Basket Loft Sound Tests

Use two farm tests to explore sound and movement.

A Test in the Loft

Listen to the passage. Use the rubber band notes to answer.

Nia's Two Tests

At an apple farm, Nia tries two sound tests in the basket loft. A vibration is a quick back-and-forth movement.

An adult stretches a rubber band over a box. Nia plucks it, watches, and listens. She repeats with the same box and band. This time, she gently holds the band still after plucking.

Next, an adult puts tiny paper bits on tight wrap over a cup. A speaker plays low, steady sounds close by without touching the cup. Nia keeps everything in the same places. She turns the sound on, off, then on. She watches the paper each time.

Rubber band notes
Pluck and let go: The band moves back and forth. Nia hears a twang.
Pluck, then hold the band still: The band stops moving. The twang stops.
