Read the clues
Listen as your teacher reads about Amir's history center visit. Then answer the questions.
Laundry Day, Then and Now
At the Oak Hollow History Center, Amir studies clues about laundry day. An artifact is an object people used. The display has a wooden washboard. Its ridges helped someone scrub cloth in a tub.
An old photograph shows two people beside a washtub outside a house. One rubs cloth on a board. Another holds a basket.
A family story says that, long ago, Rosa carried water to the tub. Her family washed clothes by hand and hung them on a line. Washing took time and teamwork.
Today, Amir's family turns on a faucet and uses an electric washer. They still wash clothes, but the machine does much of the scrubbing. Amir compares then and now.
