A Then-and-Now History Hall
For Then-and-Now Day, Ms. Rivera made a display in the school hall. The Then side had three cards. Frederick Douglass escaped slavery, became a writer and speaker, and spoke against slavery. Susan B. Anthony worked for many years so women could vote. Cesar Chavez organized farm workers to ask for fair pay and safer working conditions. The Now side showed students reading books about these Americans, discussing fair rules, and voting on a class choice. The display showed that people in the past worked for change in different ways. People today can learn about their work and make thoughtful choices in their own communities.
