Beside the Sheep Pen

At a sheep farm, children test soil and rocks beside the pen. They put equal amounts of soil in two matching dishes. They choose two matching rocks. The soil and rocks start cool.

One dish and one rock sit in sunlight. The others sit in shade from the shelter. Both groups wait 20 minutes. An adult checks each surface with a thermometer before and after. Children do not touch hot surfaces.
