Zoom Goes the Kitten
1Zip! goes the kitten, a blur of gray,
skidding on the rug where the sunbeams play.
Up on the sofa! Down on the chair!
Swat at a feather that floats in the air!
2Pounce on a slipper! Pounce on a shoe!
Pounce on a shadow—it pounces too!
Round goes the yarn, around and around,
unwinding and winding all over the ground.
3Faster and faster she circles the room,
over a pillow and under a broom.
CRASH! go the towels! CRASH! go the socks!
Out wiggles a kitten from the laundry box.
4Then slower... and slower... she pads down the hall.
She yawns a big yawn and curls up in a ball.
She snuggles up close to a warm, furry heap,
and the zoomiest kitten is soon fast asleep.
- A. The kitten is asking questions, so let your voice rise.
- B. The kitten is full of energy, so read with quick excitement.
- C. The lines are sad, so read them in a low, heavy voice.
- D. The kitten is falling asleep, so read in a soft, slow voice.
