The Robot Parade
Characters: Amara, Diego, and Mr. Okafor, their teacher
Scene 1: The Classroom
(Amara and Diego stand beside a stack of big boxes. Mr. Okafor holds a poster about the town parade.)
MR. OKAFOR: Our class will march in the parade on Saturday. We need a float!
AMARA: Let's build a giant robot out of boxes.
DIEGO: Yes! And its eyes can light up!
MR. OKAFOR: Great plan. You two can start the head today.
Scene 2: The Art Room
(Friday afternoon. The robot's head sits on a table. Diego holds two small flashlights.)
DIEGO: The flashlights keep falling out of the head! The tape will not hold them.
AMARA: What if we glue them inside?
DIEGO: Glue takes too long to dry, and the parade is tomorrow!
(Mr. Okafor walks in and lifts a roll of silver foil.)
MR. OKAFOR: Try wrapping each flashlight in foil. It will fit snugly in the hole, and it will make the light brighter.
Scene 3: The Town Street
(Saturday. Crowds line the street. The robot rolls forward on a wagon.)
AMARA: Here we go! Switch on the eyes!
(Diego clicks the flashlights. Two bright circles glow in the robot's face.)
DIEGO: It works! The foil made the lights shine so much brighter.
(The crowd claps and cheers.)
MR. OKAFOR: You solved a tough problem together. Well done!
Robot Day
1We stacked the boxes, tall and square,
And taped a head on top.
We planned two eyes that glow and shine,
But then the plan might flop.
2The tape came loose, the glue was slow,
The clock ticked on and on.
Then someone brought a roll of foil,
And now the lights stay on.
3Down Main Street rolled our robot friend,
Its eyes shone big and bright.
The whole town clapped, and so did we.
It was a happy sight.
