Wren the Wombat's Sentence Dig

Read a story about a wombat, then build, join, grow, and move its sentences.

Read the story

Wren is a wombat. Wombats are furry animals that dig burrows in the ground.

Wren Digs a New Room

1Wren the wombat lived in a burrow under a tall gum tree. One evening, she woke up and stretched her stubby legs. Her burrow felt too small.

2Wren began to dig. Dirt flew out behind her. Her strong claws scraped the hard ground, and the hole grew bigger.

3Kip the kookaburra watched from a branch. He gave a loud, laughing call. "You are making a big mess!" he said.

4Wren did not stop. She wanted a new room, but she needed help. Then Echo the echidna waddled by. Echo had sharp spines, and she had strong claws for digging.

5Echo and Wren dug side by side all night. By morning, Wren had a cozy new room. Kip flew down to see it, and he laughed his happy laugh.
