Read about Nettleton
Read the passage and study the descriptions of the sources. Then answer the questions.
Nettleton Then and Now
Nettleton began as a small community beside Lake Elm. A photograph from 1910 shows a dirt road, a few wooden homes, a general store, and a small dock. People used the dock to load fishing boats. There were fields beyond the homes.
A 2024 photograph shows the same lakeshore. The old store is still standing, but there are more homes and a paved road. A playground and a larger dock are near the water. The fields beside the homes have become a school and a row of shops.
Two maps help historians compare the place. On the 1910 map, the store and homes are near the lake, and a dirt road ends at the dock. On the 2024 map, the store remains near the lake. The paved road continues past the school and shops, and a walking path follows part of the shore.
A timeline lists these events: 1910, the first photograph and map were made; 1958, the dirt road was paved; 1986, a school opened near the lake; 2015, the walking path was built. These sources show that some places stayed, while roads, buildings, and ways to travel changed.
- A. Nettleton became smaller and moved away from the lake.
- B. Nettleton grew, and people added roads, buildings, and a path.
- C. Nettleton kept its fields but lost all of its homes.
- D. Nettleton changed from a town into a fishing boat.
The timeline says the walking path was built in .
