Cedar Vale Across the Years
People in Cedar Vale study old photographs, maps, and timelines to learn how their community changed. Two photographs show the same place at different times.
A 1948 photograph shows a small brick train station beside railroad tracks. A dirt road leads to it. The post office is west of the station, and the school is south. Only a few homes can be seen.
A 2018 photograph shows the station repaired as a community history center. The road is paved, and a sidewalk leads to the door. More homes stand nearby. The post office and school are still in their old locations.
On the 1948 map, railroad tracks run north and south beside the station. The school is south, and the post office is west. On the 2018 map, the old tracks are a bike path. A library is north of the history center. The school is still south, and the post office is still west.
The timeline records these changes: the station opened in 1948; passenger train service ended in 1975; the tracks were removed in 1988; a paved bike path opened in 2005; and the history center opened in 2018.
