A Map for Bramble Key
Bramble Key is an island community. People use a map when they need to find places or plan a walk. The map does not draw every tree or rock. Instead, it uses a few clear symbols for important places.
A title tells what the map is about. A map key explains what its symbols mean. A compass rose shows directions. A grid helps a reader name the exact square where a place is found. The mail carrier uses all four tools while traveling around Bramble Key.
Use the map information below. The columns go from west to east, and the rows go from north to south. The compass rose shows north at the top, east on the right, south at the bottom and west on the left.
Compass rose: N is at the top, E is on the right, S is at the bottom, and W is on the left.
Grid: Columns are A, B and C from west to east. Rows are 1, 2 and 3 from north to south.
Map key: ★ = lighthouse; ■ = clinic; ● = post office; ▲ = wind turbine; ◆ = picnic grove; H = community hall.
Places on the grid: A1 ★ lighthouse; C1 ▲ wind turbine; B2 ● post office; C2 H community hall; B3 ■ clinic; A3 ◆ picnic grove.
