The String Telephone

1Farid and Sunny made a string telephone. They poked a tiny hole in the bottom of two paper cups. Then they pushed a long string through the holes and tied a knot inside each cup.

2Sunny walked away until the string was tight. She spoke into her cup. Farid held his cup to his ear. He could hear her because the tight string carried the sound.

3Then Sunny walked closer, and the string got loose. Farid could not hear her because a loose string does not carry sound well. "Pull it tight again!" he called.
