A Picnic by the Lake

1Dina and Grandpa went on a picnic by the lake. The sun was hot, so they sat in the shade under a tall tree. The cool spot kept them from getting too warm.

2Grandpa brought an enormous watermelon. It was so big that Dina needed both arms to hold it. Her sandwich was soggy. The ice pack had melted and made the bread wet.

3Dina nibbled her sandwich in tiny bites. Grandpa gobbled a slice of melon. He ate it so fast that juice ran down his chin. Then they both laughed.
