Dance Ribbons That Stay Put
Use ideas from nature to design and test a ribbon band.

Look for Nature's Ideas
Listen to the story. Think about how outside parts help living things.
Ribbons at the Dance Studio
In a busy city neighborhood, dancers meet at a dance studio. They wear ribbon bands over their sleeves. The bands pop open as they move. The dancers need bands that stay shut without snagging their sleeves.
A burdock plant grows seed burrs with tiny bent hooks. The hooks catch animal fur. Seeds ride to new places where they can grow.
A cat has curved claws. The claws catch rough bark as the cat climbs away from danger.
The class has cloth, paper tape, string, and hook strips. They will make model bands and test them on a cloth-covered tube, not a person.
