About this worksheet

What students practice

  • Students compare how pushes and pulls of different strengths affect how far a wagon moves.
  • Students predict how changing the direction of a push or pull changes a wagon's motion.
  • Students identify what to change and keep the same in a push-and-pull test.

How to use

Read the steps, graph labels, and questions aloud. Let children point to their choices or dictate answers. If repeating the tests, use a clear, flat space.

The Class Test

At the park, a class tests a toy wagon.

1. Mark equal chalk spaces on a flat path.
2. Put the wagon at the start, at rest.
3. Push or pull toward the bench for one count. Try small, gentle pushes and pulls, then big, strong ones.
4. Let go. Count spaces to where it stops.

Keep the same wagon, path, and start. Use an empty wagon each time. The graph shows the class results.
