New Lights for Our Stage
Every spring, our school puts on a play, and every winter, the chorus sings at a concert on the auditorium stage. The lights that hang above that stage are very old. I believe our school should replace them with LED lights. LED lights would keep the stage cooler, save electricity, and be easier to take care of.
My first reason is that LED lights would keep performers cooler. Old-style stage lights turn much of the electricity they use into heat instead of light. LED lights give off much less heat while they shine just as brightly. During our spring play last year, the actors wore heavy wool costumes under the hot lights. Our director had to stop the dress rehearsal twice so that everyone could cool off and drink some water.
My second reason is that LED lights would save electricity. An LED light uses much less electricity than an old-style light to make the same amount of light. Our stage lights are not just used for plays. They are also turned on for concerts, assemblies, and rehearsals. Mr. Ruiz, our music teacher, says the stage lights are on almost every school day. Using less electricity would save the school money that it could spend on other things.
My third reason is that LED lights would be easier to take care of. An LED light can keep working for many more years than an old-style bulb. Right now, our stage lights hang from a metal bar high above the stage. Changing even one bulb takes a tall ladder and two adults. Last year, our custodian, Ms. Patel, had to climb up and change burned-out bulbs five times.
New LED lights would keep our performers cool, save electricity, and save Ms. Patel many trips up the ladder. Please vote to ask our principal for new stage lights. Then our next play can really shine!
