Rafi's Mime Club Diary
Read a boy's diary and see how his choices change his week.
Read the diary
Rafi wrote in his diary during one busy week. Read his entries carefully. Then answer the questions.
Rafi's Mime Club Diary
1Monday. My big sister, Dina, says I talk more than a parrot. Today she made me a deal. If I can stay silent for a whole mime show, she will give me her dessert for a week. So I signed up for Mime Club. Mimes act out stories without saying a single word.
2Wednesday. Mime is harder than it looks! Ms. Boateng showed us how to pretend we are stuck inside a glass box. I pressed my hands on the walls that weren't there, but I kept giggling and saying, "Look at me!" Ms. Boateng smiled and put a finger to her lips. "Rafi, your face has plenty to say," she told me. "Let your face and hands do the talking."
3Thursday. Tonight I practiced in front of the bathroom mirror for an hour, using only my face and hands. I pulled an invisible rope and climbed an invisible ladder. Dina knocked and asked what I was doing in there. I didn't answer her. Not one word!
4Saturday. The show was today. In the middle of our act, the music suddenly stopped. Everyone froze. I almost shouted, "Somebody fix it!" Instead, I pretended to hold a big invisible radio and give it a shake. Then I turned its invisible crank, faster and faster. The audience laughed and clapped. Soon Ms. Boateng got the real music playing again, and our act went on.
5Sunday. Dina gave me her dessert at lunch today, just like she promised. "You didn't say one word on that stage," she said. "And you made everyone laugh." I wanted to tell her all about it, but I just grinned and took a bow right there in the kitchen.
