Two Tales of Bina and Rue
Compare two stories by the same author about the same goat friends.
Read the two stories
Bina and Rue are the main characters in a series of stories by one author. Read two of the stories.
Story 1: Bina and Rue on Fog Ridge
1Bina and Rue were young goats who lived high in the mountains. One cold morning, they set out to cross Fog Ridge, a narrow path of loose stones. A thick gray fog hid everything.
2"I know the way," said Rue, and she trotted ahead. "Wait," said Bina. "The stones are slippery. Let's stay close and go slowly."
3Rue did not listen. Soon her hoof slid on a wet stone, and she froze at the edge of the cliff.
4"Step left!" Bina called. Rue could not see her friend, but she followed Bina's voice and stepped onto solid rock. Together they crept along the ridge, calling to each other all the way.
5At the end of the path, the fog lifted. "I'm sorry I ran ahead," said Rue. "Next time, I will listen to you."
Story 2: Bina and Rue at the Harvest Fair
1Bina and Rue went down the mountain to the Harvest Fair in the village. The sun was warm, and the square was full of music and noisy crowds.
2At one stand, Rue spotted a tall tower of red apples. She leaned in to sniff them, and her horn caught the corner of the table. Apples tumbled everywhere.
3"Let's go before anyone sees us," Rue whispered, backing toward a hay bale. Bina shook her head. "We should tell the fruit seller what happened."
4Rue's legs trembled, but she walked up to the seller. "It was an accident," she said. "I'm sorry." The seller smiled and handed each goat a basket. "Help me pick them up, and the job will go quickly."
5Soon the apples were stacked again. Rue felt lighter than she had all day.
