From Factory to Backyard
1Priya and her brother Tomas lived in Brookside, a suburban neighborhood. They wanted a soccer ball for the small field behind their apartment building. Their aunt Rosa said they could choose one at Corner Field Store.
2The ball began at a factory several towns away. Factory workers cut rubber panels and added a cloth lining. They stitched the panels around a round inner tube, checked each ball, and packed the finished balls into cartons. The cartons were loaded onto a delivery truck.
3The truck carried the cartons to Corner Field Store. Store workers opened the cartons and placed the balls on shelves. Priya and Tomas's family bought one ball at the store. At home, the children carried it to the field and kicked it back and forth. The ball had traveled through several steps before the family could use it.
