Maple Ridge: Then and Now
Maple Ridge is a town in the hills. Long ago, children went to a one-room schoolhouse. They wrote on small slates and shared a few books. Many people traveled in horse-drawn wagons. At home, families carried water from a pump and used a wood stove to cook. After dark, an oil lamp gave light.
Today, children in Maple Ridge go to a larger school. Each child has books and can use a computer for some lessons. School buses carry children on paved roads. Homes have water pipes and electric lights. People often use cars to travel. Both then and now, children learn, families work, and neighbors help one another.
