About this worksheet

What students practice

  • Students explain that every feature of a shape category belongs to all shapes in its subcategories.
  • Students decide which features always belong to squares, rectangles, rhombuses, and parallelograms.
  • Students use category features to explain why an equilateral triangle is also isosceles.

How to use

Read the rule cards aloud together first. Students can sketch each shape on scrap paper while they decide which features it must have.
