A Map for Sunwheel County Fair
At Sunwheel County Fair, a printed map helps visitors find their way between exhibits. The map is a grid with columns A through F from west to east and rows 1 through 6 from north to south. A place is named by its column letter first and its row number second. For example, B3 means column B, row 3. North is at the top of the map, south is at the bottom, east is to the right, and west is to the left.
The map scale says that 1 grid square represents 50 yards. To measure a walking route, count each horizontal or vertical grid move, then multiply by 50 yards. The Main Gate is at B1. The Music Tent is at E1. The Craft Barn is at B3, and the Pie Booth is at D3. The First-aid Tent is at C4, the Pond is at F4, the Game Field is at D5, the Petting Zoo is at B5, and the Garden Exhibit is at E6.
A place can be described with an intermediate direction when it is both to the side and above or below another place. For example, a place that is east and south of another place is southeast of it. Visitors can use the grid to compare places, choose a direction, and plan a route without guessing.
