A Duckweed Tray Problem
A pond behind the library has small floating plants called duckweed. The library team wants to grow healthy duckweed in trays near the pond so visitors can observe it. The team needs to choose a water condition that helps the plants grow well.
The team placed matching duckweed plants in two trays. Each tray started with 8 fronds. The trays had the same pond water, water depth, lamp, and number of hours under the lamp. The team changed the water temperature. Tray C had water kept at 18 degrees Celsius. Tray W had water kept at 24 degrees Celsius. The team counted fronds and noted their color after 10 days.
After 10 days, Tray C had 16 fronds. Fourteen fronds were green, and 2 were pale. Tray W had 12 fronds. Seven fronds were green, and 5 were pale. The team recorded these results but wanted more evidence before making a final choice for the pond display.
- A. The kind of duckweed
- B. The number of lamp hours
- C. The water temperature
