Leaf Pile Day

1The maple tree in Nana's yard
has dropped its leaves of red.
They cover up the grass and path
and Nana's garden bed.

2Nana hands me a rake. Then Jin
gets one that's just his size.
We rake the leaves into a heap
that grows before our eyes.

3"One, two, three!" we shout, and then
we jump into the heap.
The dry leaves crunch and crackle.
The pile is soft and deep.

4Jin pops up out of the pile
with leaves stuck to his nose.
I toss a handful up so high,
and down, down, down it goes.

5A breeze comes by and lifts the leaves.
They twirl up in the air.
They land on Jin, they land on me,
and stick in Nana's hair!

6We rake the pile back up once more.
Then Nana calls, "Come in!"
Jin leaves his rake beside the door
and runs in with a grin.
