A Clean Leaf

Simple steps show how to clean dust from a smooth plant leaf so more light can reach it.

The heading is “Cleaning a Leaf.” A plant by a window has big, smooth leaves. One leaf has dust on it. Dust can keep some light from reaching the leaf. The plant needs light to grow.

How can we get the dust off? We can use a soft cloth. Put the cloth in water. Then squeeze it. The cloth should be damp, not dripping.

Hold the leaf from below with one hand. Use your other hand to wipe it with the cloth. Start near the stem. Move out to the tip.

The dust comes off on the cloth. Now more light can reach the leaf!
