The Cable Under the Street

Dev Shah and Inez Park make a book about San Francisco cable cars.

Dev is the author. He writes the words. Inez is the illustrator. She draws the pictures.

A heading says “A Hidden Pull.” Dev writes about a cable. This thick rope made of metal moves under the street. A cable car holds on to it with a tool called a grip. The moving cable pulls the car.

But we cannot see the cable under the street! Inez draws a picture that shows what is below. The picture shows the grip holding the cable. A caption says “The grip holds the cable.”

Dev’s words tell how the car moves. Inez’s picture helps us see the hidden parts.
