The heading is “A Tube for a Sip.” A butterfly lands on a flower. Its food may be deep inside. How can it reach its food?

The flower has nectar. Nectar is a sweet liquid made by flowers. It can be deep inside a flower.

The butterfly has a long mouthpart called a proboscis. It works like a drinking straw. The butterfly unrolls it to sip nectar. This tube helps it reach the sweet liquid.

After a sip, the tube curls into a coil. A coil is a round, curled shape. A picture shows the curled tube. Its caption says, “The tube rolls up.” The butterfly can fly away.
