Long ago, Anna Atkins studied seaweed. Seaweed grows in the sea. Anna wanted to show its shapes in a book.

The heading says, "Pictures Made with Sunlight." Anna put seaweed on special paper. She set it in the sun. Then she took the seaweed off and rinsed the paper with water. A print was left. It had a white seaweed shape on a blue background.

Look at the illustration. It shows Anna setting seaweed on paper in the sun. Next to her is a blue print with a white shape. The caption says, "Anna made pictures with sunlight." Her prints helped people see what the seaweed looked like.
