Plug In, Then Ride

Learn how an electric school bus charges its battery and uses that energy to move.

Play the quiz as a game

Some school buses use electricity to move. They carry children to school, just as other buses do. But these buses get power in a different way.

An electric bus has a big battery. The battery stores energy. It gives power to a motor. The motor makes the wheels turn. After many trips, the battery has less energy left.

How can the bus get more energy? At the bus garage, an adult plugs a charging cord into the bus. Electricity moves through the cord to charge the battery. The bus stays parked while it charges.

A poster about charging could have the heading “Plug In, Then Go.” The heading tells the main steps. First, the bus gets energy while it is parked. Next, the adult unplugs the cord. With energy in its battery, the bus is ready for more trips!
