A Toast Sun for a Gray Morning

On a chilly morning, the smell, warmth, and crunch of cinnamon toast help Esme find a little sunshine at the breakfast table.

Play the quiz as a game

The morning sky is soft and gray. Cold air taps the window glass. Esme curls her chilly toes. She wants the cold to pass.

Grandma brings a blue round plate. Warm toast sits in a ring. Its points look like small sunbeams. What a bright and cozy thing!

Sweet cinnamon fills the air. Esme takes a sniff. Butter shines upon the bread. Her sad face starts to lift.

Crunch, crunch! The toast is crisp. Soft butter melts on top. Esme takes a tasty bite. Her smile grows big and wide.

She draws the toast with golden rays. A heading says, "My Morning Sun." Her caption says, "Toast on my plate." She shows Grandma when she's done.

The sky outside is gray and cold. The kitchen smells so sweet. Esme hums a happy tune and wiggles both her feet.
