In this original retelling of a folktale from India, a cap seller watches a group of copying monkeys and finds a clever way to get his caps back.

Dev carried six red caps in a basket to a village market in India. He wore a blue cap. His small sign had the heading "Soft Caps." At noon, Dev stopped under a wide banyan tree to rest.

When Dev woke up, his basket was empty. Six monkeys sat on a branch above him. Each monkey wore a red cap! Dev still had his blue one.

"Please bring those down," Dev called. The monkeys stayed in the tree. Dev put his hands on his head. The monkeys did the same. He rubbed his nose. Six monkeys rubbed their noses.

"You copied me!" said Dev. He smiled as he made a plan. He took off his blue cap and dropped it on the ground. The monkeys took off their red caps. Down came six caps, one after another!

Dev picked up the caps and put the red ones in his basket. He put the blue one back on his head. Then he waved at the monkeys and walked to the market. Watching them had helped him find an answer.
