A Front Seat for Mateo

At Mateo's birthday puppet show, the friends move their seats so everyone can see.

Mateo wore a yellow crown for his birthday. The first picture shows him on a round rug in his living room. He and his friends sat on cushions near the door.

Mei had made a puppet stage from a box. A sign on it had the heading “Birthday Show.” She held up a little rabbit puppet. Mateo peered at it.

“I cannot see its face,” he said. The next picture shows Mateo leaning forward with one hand above his eyes. The rabbit looks tiny from his faraway seat.

Mei set down the rabbit. “Let us move the seats!” she said. The friends scooted their cushions close to the stage. Now Mateo could see the rabbit's pink nose and floppy ears.

Mei made the rabbit hop and bow. Mateo laughed and clapped. In the last picture, the friends sit close together, smiling at the puppet. The caption says, “A front seat for every friend!”
