Bubbles for Nuri's Birthday

At her birthday party, Nuri finds that a made-up bubble story is fun to hear, while a book with facts and steps helps her make bubbles.

Nuri had a birthday party in the courtyard. There was a tub of bubble mix and a round wand. Nuri blew hard through the wand. No bubbles came out.

"I need help," said Nuri. Aunt Luz set two books on the party table. Both had bubbles on the cover.

Nuri opened the first book. In it, a bubble sang a birthday song to a frog. The frog clapped. "This book tells a made-up story," said Nuri. "It is fun, but it does not tell me how to make bubbles."

The next book had a heading called "Making Bubbles." A picture showed a child with a wand. Its caption said, "Blow softly." The book explained that a bubble is air inside a thin layer of soapy water.

"This book gives real facts and steps," said Nuri. She dipped the wand in the mix. Then she blew softly. Three bubbles rose into the air.

"It worked!" Nuri said. After the party, Aunt Luz read the singing bubble story aloud. Nuri liked learning from one book and enjoying a tale from the other.
