Paz spread her yellow towel on the beach. The sea hissed, “Shhh, shhh.” Warm, rough sand tickled her toes. She wanted to rest beside Dad.

Paz lay down. A hard bump pressed into her back. She sat up and scrunched her face. “This feels like a bed of rocks!” she said.

Dad lifted one end of the towel. Under it was a small mound of sand. “We can fix that,” he said. Paz pushed the sand flat with her hands. Dad helped her shake out the towel.

They spread it on the smooth spot. Paz lay down again. “Ahh,” she sighed. Her tight face grew soft. “Now it feels just right.” She shut her eyes and smiled as the sea hissed.

Dad took a photo of Paz on her towel. Later, they put it in their beach book. Paz chose the caption, “Soft at Last.” The words told how her beach bed felt.
